O’Rourke Team Attends Pro SEO Boston Seminar

O’Rourke Hospitality CEO Tom O’Rourke and SEO Specialist Melanie Pappas recently attended the Pro SEO Boston Seminar sponsored by Distilled and SEOmoz. It was an amazing (albeit intense!) two days of comprehensive SEO tips and tricks from some of the top names in the industry, including SEOmoz CEO & Co-Founder Rand Fiskin and Distilled Founder Will Critchlow.

The biggest takeaway for us? Search has gone social. And the more mainstream channels like Facebook and Twitter are only the beginning.

How Can Social Search Impact my Hotel?

In late October Bing announced that it would integrate Twitter into its search engine results pages, and within hours Google announced that it too would include Twitter updates. I am sure people thought, ‘That’s great news, but how will that impact me and my business?’ As hoteliers, this could have a huge impact on your business if you are not participating in social media and communicating through today’s social platforms.

Google’s goal is to create the most comprehensive, relevant, and fastest search in the world. It doesn’t get much faster than if you are including up to the minute data. Their view is that the next time you search for a hotel, you can be aided by a real-time observation. (more…)

Southwest Airlines Leverages Social Media Tools

“Southwest Airlines is riding the blogosphere like a wild horse,” says the program description of Paula Berg’s talk at the Inbound Marketing Summit in Boston.

Berg opens her presentation by talking about the Southwest Airline TV show where the camera followed passengers and crews around behind the scenes of the Airport. With the show they were able to reach a totally different demographics than before, which was basically males involved in business with an interest in sports. The show was aired on a Monday night and then on Tuesday two interesting things would happen; one the revenue would go up 9%, and two, they would receive a lot of job applications. (more…)

Our Internet Marketing Tip this month focuses on the benefits of blogging. We had the pleasure of speaking to Juli Lederhaus, General Manager of the Historic Hawthorne Hotel in Salem Massachusetts. Juli is a pioneer in blogging and has written a post every day since 1995.

Juli shares with us what inspired her to start blogging, “Ever since the internet came around I always wanted to have a way to talk to our guests directly. The whole HTML thing was so complicated so I was looking for a way to do that and I went to a seminar and thought this is exactly what I need. So I came back to the hotel that day and I set up our blog and I’ve been blogging every single day – haven’t missed a day in over 4 years!”
